JAMES G. MCMANUS


James G. McManusJames G. McManus, Principal Partner at Slowey/McManus Communications, helps corporate and non-profit organizations develop and implement creative and successful communications strategies closely tied to their business or public policy objectives. He is also an attorney who has assisted law firms with their clients on crisis communications and litigation support engagements.

Jim began his career as a reporter for the National Catholic Reporter, where he was news editor and later Washington bureau chief. He also wrote for the Boston Business Journal as the paper’s first Washington correspondent. Pursuing a professional opportunity in Hong Kong, he trained journalists at a news service and worked as an editor at the Economist Intelligence Unit in Hong Kong, where he covered trade and economic development in Asia in the late 1980s. He then worked as an editor at the Worcester Telegram & Gazette and the Boston Herald before moving on to manage the Beacon Hill office of a state senator for five years, coordinating legislative, constituent and media relations.

For more than 15 years, he has worked as a public affairs and public relations consultant, primarily in the health care, life sciences, utilities, education and human services fields. He has helped secure media coverage in the most prominent media outlets around the world for clients that include Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., Boston Scientific, Biogen Idec, Eastman Kodak, Enterprise Ireland, the Health Insurance Association of America, PHT Clinical Networks, the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council and many others. His account teams have won numerous public relations industry awards.

Jim holds a bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross, a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Illinois and a law degree from Suffolk University. He is member of the Leadership Council of the American Diabetes Association and a board member of the Massachusetts Business Alliance for Education. He has been a guest lecturer at Suffolk University and Emerson College.
