Empower, the Dubai-based district cooling provider, is playing a critical role in disseminating sustainability solutions and district cooling technology in line with the vision of the UAE in making the world a better place to live, Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of the company said.

The company, which has participated at a special recognition meeting for the United Nations Energy Programme's (UNEP) District Energy in Cities initiative on the sidelines of the 107th Idea annual conference and trade show, has been recognised as a major partner of the initiative.

The UNEP's special recognition ceremony was attended by Rob Thornton, president and CEO of International District Energy Association (Idea), and Lily Riahi, advisor, UNEP DES initiative, among other prominent US and international experts.

The ceremony showcased a series of achievements in countries and best practices in district cooling and energy management in cities around the world. It also discussed next steps in implementing energy management practices and ways of increasing awareness of its benefits.
