More than 30,000 people have reportedly died as a result of gun violence. And after witnessing tragedy after tragedy 1,000 musicians are saying enough is enough with a concert event across America. Find out if they’ll be stopping in your city!
This is incredible! One thousand musicians and artists are now banding together to end gun violence once and for all with an amazing cross-country concert series for one day only. The event, which will kick off on Sept. 25, will include more than 350 events nationwide in major cities like Los Angeles and New York, Chicago, and Miami.
The show in New York at the Beacon Theater will welcome Eddie Vedder, Jackson Browne andRosanne Cash as headliners. That already sounds like a great time! Another city expected to bring out a huge crowd is the LA concert, which will features acts from Ryan Cabrera, Don Felder, Sam Harris, Sebastian Kole, and more! Other performers across the nation will include Jeffrey Gaines,Marc Cohn, and Jackson Browne. We are definitely getting our tickets!
While fans will get to party and sing along to some of their favorite acts, the mission driving these events is very powerful. The Concert Across America to End Gun Violence is striving to honor the victims who suffered from gun violence around the country, and aims to make a prevention of it happening any longer a key issue to address in the upcoming election. Organizations including, Massachusetts -based Stop Handgun Violence organization, Faiths United to Prevent Gun Violence, the Violence Prevention Coalition, and many more outstanding organizations have also come together to support the anti-gun violence cause.
“More than 30,000 Americans die every year from gun violence, 12,000 of which are murders,”John Rosenthal, founder of Stop Handgun Violence, said. “It’s time Congress does more than pray and designate a day of remembrance. We need to hold every candidate and elected official accountable to support national mandatory criminal background checks for all sales and keep guns out of the hands of criminals, terrorists, domestic abusers and the dangerously mentally ill.”
“It’s no secret that gun violence is a serious epidemic in this country,” Sam Harris, founder of X Ambassadors — another partnering org, said. “We have to do more than just build awareness — we have to contact our local government representatives, sign petitions asking for stricter screening processes for gun-owners, get on the ground with protesters, and engage in conversation both with proud gun-owners and victim of gun violence. Nothing will change if we all just sit around shaking our heads at our TVs every time we hear about another innocent person falling victim to gun violence.” And in addition to holding concerts, the Concert Across America has also started a petition to end gun violence, which is currently listen on the official website. People can also get involved by learning more about how they can volunteer and donate in their own communities. That is truly inspirational!
In just 2016 alone, many people have tragically lost their lives as a result of gun violence. Whether that were at the Orlando nightclub, Dallas, or the recent shooting in Tulsa, it’s clear that something needs to be done.
