Sept. 02--Hyde Park Elementary School students got to do more than meet their teachers during Thursday's open house.

Members of American Medical Response were also on hand at the school, giving tours of one of their ambulances. In addition, paramedics and EMTs spoke with children and their families about the city's emergency medical service provider.

And AMR staff didn't come empty-handed either. Prior to Thursday's open house, the group, including AMR Regional Director Tom Maxian, donated 20 backpacks filled with school supplies donated by AMR and its staff. The backpacks were ceremoniously handed off to Niagara Falls School Superintendent Mark Laurrie and Hyde Park Principal Mary Kerins.

School staff will be handing out the backpacks to deserving students who will be attending Hyde Park this year.
