A big part of public relations today is creating content, and PR people love to talk (and write), so writing a blog is a natural fit. In that respect, Slowey/McManus is no different than other firms out there. We love to talk, and we think we have something important to say (most of the time). In a lot of other ways, though, we are different. This blog will be a reflection of that difference, and, we hope, a valuable contribution to the discussion of professional issues for communicators.
We are fortunate to have a diverse range of clients in different fields. What they have in common is they uphold high ethical standards. We do our best to work with companies and organizations that are improving their (and our) community. Whether that’s fundraising for hospitals or working to create sustainable energy capacity in the Northeast, good works are important to us. Public relations is our activism, and we’re lucky enough that it’s also a career.
Today, credible information is more important than ever. Our founders, Dom and Jim, began their careers as reporters, chasing down information and verifying facts before the internet existed. In some ways, this has made the job easier. However, the wealth of information now available has made it far more difficult to know what is true. Media literacy is more important than ever. We care about information. Facts. Making a difference.
This blog will have a lot of different kinds of entries. Articles will cover events that we attend, funny stories from office life, more serious pieces on issues affecting our society, PR advice. We will vigorously defend truth, at a moment when reality is under siege. Please, join us.
